Review of Basal Kit by Eleaf

Review of Basal Kit by Eleaf

This review is dedicated to a miniature beginner kit called Basal Kit created by Eleaf.

A couple of days ago we reviewed the iStick Kiya with GS Juni Kit starter kit from the guys at Eleaf, the purpose of which was defined as meeting the needs of new vapers. However, if the box mod from the above-mentioned kit still had a right to exist, then the “whale” clearomizer turned out to be, as they say, “neither fish nor fowl”. Today we will take a look at approximately the same picture in the face of the Basal Kit and check its components for professional suitability.

The Basal Kit comes in a thin, like the devices themselves, cardboard box with a traditional set of inscriptions and logos. On the front side of the package you can see a rather stylish image of what is inside, as well as the name of the company and the kit. online vape shop new zealand The sides are similarly full of the manufacturer’s distinctive signs, and one of them has a verification code. The back of the box is more informative and displays the legal data of the Eleaf company along with a list of the “kit” configuration. Let’s open the chest.

As you can see, the configuration of the described kit is quite rich, and it contains all the components necessary for operation. The USB cable inside, by the way, allows you to charge the Basal box mod with a current of up to 2A, which, by the way, not all of its brothers can boast of.

It should be noted that the Eleaf Basal Kit is sold in three color options: copper, steel and gold. We are reviewing the copper version today (or rose gold, as indicated on the manufacturer’s website).

Having taken both devices out of the box, you are amazed at their miniature size. This applies to both the clearomizer and the mod itself. The diameter of the first, by the way, is only 15 mm, which throws us back to the “ego” past. However, the atomizer is actually a bit from those times. By default, the GS Basal does not have a drip tip installed, it is in a separate bag. The mouthpiece format is, of course, 510th. An interesting point: depending on the selected color of the box mod, the color of the atomizer flask will vary. So, in our copper case, the glass has a pinkish tint and the Eleaf company logo along with the name of the tank. Towards the bottom, the clearomizer decreases, looking slightly pot-bellied. There, at the bottom, is a tightening adjustment ring with a characteristic stopper. The tightening can be adjusted from almost free to quite tight, up to MTL.

The metal 510 drip tip sits on a thick black o-ring (a spare is included). Admittedly, it’s a so-so drip tip. In any case, it’s definitely not for winter weather. The hole for the steam outlet is not the widest, of course, but it could be a little narrower for a tighter tightening. When testing the atomizer, I replaced the mouthpiece with my own, I didn’t like this one.

Further disassembly of the GS Basal allows only to unscrew the base with the installed evaporator. The flask itself is not disassemblable and is a one-piece structure. Here we again come across a rather old-school method of filling – through the bottom, along the wall. Only 1.8 ml of liquid can be poured in this way, which is extremely little by modern standards.

Initially, a GS Air replacement for 0.75 Ω is screwed into the base of the atomizer, designed for vaping from 8 to 25 W. In the kit, hermetically sealed, there is a spare evaporator for one and a half Ohms. Externally, both evaporators are the same, but inside they are completely different. The one with 0.75 Ω has a classic design with a vertically installed spiral inside. In the second, at 1.5 Ω, a horizontal coil is already installed, hinting at quite good taste indicators. Let’s check.

Appearance and design of Basal Mod

Basal box mod

Basal box mod, to be honest, looks pretty nice and stylish. It is well assembled, made quite well and creates the impression of an image thing. Although, of course, it is not, it is a cheap Chinese device. The front panel contains all the necessary controls, including a display, power increase/decrease buttons and, of course, the Fire button. The screen, by the way, is covered with glossy plastic with a kind of mirror effect, which in general is not good for it (the screen).

While one of the sides of the box mod has a pleasant radial texture, the second side is empty, bearing only the manufacturer’s logo and the name of the device. The other sides are similarly empty, which gives the device a laconic and at the same time pleasant appearance. The overall finish of the Basal case is satin.

You will have to charge the battery built into the box mod by laying the device on its side, since the micro-USB port is located at the bottom. Certificates and a warning about the inadmissibility of throwing the device into the trash can are located nearby. The upper part of the Basal is equipped with a 510 connector with a spring-loaded brass pin, no surprises here. The only thing is that the connector itself looks a little flimsy, but nothing terrible happened to it during testing.

Impressions and conclusions

I will not express the standard pros and cons in summing up today. There will be only one general opinion. In my opinion, this set is aimed rather at a female audience, striving to get rid of the bad habit of smoking and not wanting to carry around half a kilo of devices in their bag. Moreover, both the dimensions and the appearance of the “whale” are clearly not for the male part of the vape community. I liked the assembled device for its compactness, quality of execution and ease of use. Although, if Eleaf had made both devices from the set a little larger in size, this would have benefited both the tank volume and the battery capacity. But, we have what we have. The board of the box mod is not overloaded with unnecessary functions and settings, only the variwatt. The only thing I didn’t like about the Basal Mod is the glossy plastic with a mirror effect, covering the display, making it almost unreadable in the sun. The box mod is quite convenient to use, although it feels quite unusual in the hand. But the “rose gold” color is clearly an acquired taste. The GS Basal Clearomizer suddenly surprised with the correct implementation of the cigarette draw. It is really as it should be here. All this is achieved thanks to a competent airflow control system and a correct evaporator of one and a half Ohms with a horizontal coil, which gives a very good taste. The only disappointing thing is the filling through, excuse me, one place and a modest volume of 1.8 ml. The overall verdict on the kit as a whole is good, but not for everyone.
